Hong Kong and Jiangmen are located on the east and west banks of the Pearl River Estuary respectively.  Both cities are in the Cantonese cultural area, sharing the same ancestors and origins.  In the mid-19th century, sea routes between Hong Kong and various parts of Jiangmen were established, fostering increasingly close exchanges between the two places.  Among these, charitable endeavours formed a deeply rooted connection, serving as a unique bridge of mutual support and collaboration.

The Tung Wah Group of Hospitals (TWGHs) is the longest-standing and most influential charitable organisation in Hong Kong, holding a uniquely significant place in the history of philanthropy in China.  Since its founding in 1870, it has remained steadfast in its mission: "To heal the sick and to relieve the distressed, to care for the elderly and to rehabilitate the disabled, to promote education and to nurture the youngsters, and to raise the infant and to guide the youth."  For 155 years, Tung Wah has served society with unwavering dedication.  Its development is inextricably linked to the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, particularly the Wuyi region of Jiangmen.

As China's "Capital of Overseas Chinese", Jiangmen shares close geographical ties with Hong Kong, and together they embody the essence of Lingnan culture.  This exhibition showcases historical documents, photographs and artefacts from the TWGHs and various regions of Jiangmen, highlighting the long-standing history of mutual support and collaboration in charitable endeavours between the two places.  It celebrates the achievements of philanthropy built on the twin bridges of overseas Chinese ties and benevolence.
