Compiled and translated by the Hon. Professor Lau Chi-pang, BBS, JP, Legislative Council Member, Special Advisor to the President on Publicity, Director of the Communications and Public Affairs Office, and Professor of History at Lingnan University, and published by City University of Hong Kong Press, the book traces Tung Wah's mission and role from 1870 to 2020. It covers Tung Wah's beginnings in free medical services and disaster relief, the modernization and expansion of social services in the 1960s–70s, and reforms and innovations in the last 20 years, including responses to COVID-19. The book offers readers a rich perspective on how Tung Wah has worked hand-in-hand with Hong Kong for over 150 years, upholding its mission of "healing the sick and relieving the distressed, caring for the elderly and rehabilitating the disabled, promoting education and nurturing the youngsters, and raising the infant and guiding the youth." It stands as a key reference in the study of Hong Kong’s philanthropic history.
