In the early 20th century, local Chinese gradually accepted Western medicine. Tung Wah Hospital and Kwong Wah Hospital, founded in 1870 and 1911 respectively, increased manpower and facilities to meet the standard of modern medical services. The speakers of the talk series elaborated the close relationship between healthcare and social development under the themes of childbearing, tuberculosis prevention and treatment as well as nurse training.
